Those who study insects are called entomologists.

An ACE is an Associate Certified Entomologist which has a certification from Entomological Society of America. There are over 400 Associate Certified Entomologists in the nation. Tom Rasberry is among the select group of professionals with less than 400 people having achieved this certification and only 50 in Texas out of 12,656 licensed Pest Control Professionals in Texas.

The ACE program was launched in May 2004 and is rapidly becoming the industry-standard for professionalism and training. As part of the Board Certifield Entomologist (BCE) program of the Entomological Society of America, BCE is specifically geared toward the Pest management industry.

Generally specializing in pest control, Associate Certified Entomologists (ACEs) are those who have passed at least one of the most rigorous examination to test their knowledge. ACEs agree to a code of ethical behavior, and – as part of their certification renewal process – must annually provide a copy of their current pesticide applicator's license.

Insects are one of the most plentiful and successful life forms on the planet and they are essential for our ability to survive on earth. Insects outnumber humans more than 1.6 billion to one. A number of crops depend on insect pollination, insects use them as a food source. Studying their DNA, we gain much knowledge to the root of all life on earth.

Within the field there are many ways that a person can specialize their training. Some study insects' impact on crop yields, some study the medical impact they have on humans and other animals, and still others focus on ways to limit the damaging influence that insects can have on the population.
